core equipment components of a livestock feed mill
A complete livestock feed mill consists of multiple key equipment systems. We provide configuration solutions ranging from single machines to complete production lines, tailored to different animal feed types, production scales, and process requirements.
Core equipment covers key production stages such as grinding, mixing, pelleting, extrusion, cooling, and packaging, ensuring efficient and stable feed production and meeting the processing needs of different markets.
The following are representative core stages and equipment used in a feed production line. When actually establishing a livestock feed mill, various factors must be comprehensively considered in the production line design.

Crushing Equipment
Crushing equipment includes hay crushers for ruminant feed lines and ultrafine crushers for crushing food and feed-related raw materials.

Mixing Equipment
Mixing equipment includes paddle mixers and ribbon mixers, widely used for mixing various feeds and premixes, with a mixing efficiency greater than 98%.

Pelletizing Equipment
Pelletizing is an important process for processing powdered feed into pelleted feed, improving feed transportation and storage performance, and increasing animal feed intake.

Extrusion Equipment
Extruders are core equipment for producing high-quality aquatic feed and pet food, capable of producing both floating and sinking aquatic feeds.

Cooling Equipment
Counter-flow coolers utilize advanced cooling methods to improve finished product stability and extend shelf life.

Packaging Equipment
RICHI finished product packaging scales support automatic weighing, filling, and sealing, significantly improving production efficiency and reducing labor costs.

LIVESTOCK FEED MILL PROCESSING FLOW
We can establish highly automated livestock feed production lines, achieving automated processing from raw materials to finished feed through the coordinated operation of multiple process stages. Below is a relatively complete feed production line; adjustments and omissions can be made to some stages during actual production line construction based on specific circumstances.
1
Raw Material Receiving and Storage
Receiving, cleaning, and storing raw materials such as corn, wheat, soybean meal, bran, and forage to provide a stable supply for subsequent processing.
2
Raw Material Cleaning
Removing stones, metal impurities, and other foreign objects using screening and magnetic separation equipment to improve production safety and protect the operation of subsequent equipment.
3
Crushing
Using a forage crusher or ultrafine crusher, the pre-treated raw materials are crushed to a suitable particle size to improve feed utilization and product quality.
4
Batching
According to different feed formulations, various raw materials and auxiliary additives are precisely added through an automatic batching system to ensure accurate feed formulation.
5
Mixing
Using a paddle mixer or ribbon mixer to fully mix various raw materials and additives, improving feed uniformity.
6
Pelletizing/Extrusion
Specific processing methods can be selected based on different product requirements. Ring die pellet mills are used for producing livestock and poultry pellet feed; extrusion extruders are suitable for producing aquatic feed and pet food, processing the mixed powder into pellets with a specific shape and density. Pelletizing is not required when producing powdered feed.
7
Drying
First, for aquatic feed, pet food, and some high-moisture feed products, drying equipment is needed to reduce product moisture and improve storage stability. Second, some raw materials with high moisture content also require drying to ensure smooth pelleting.
8
Spray Coating
Spray coating technology is mainly used in fields with high requirements for nutrient retention and product quality, such as aquatic feed, pet food, and high-end livestock and poultry feed. Spray coating can enhance the nutritional value and performance of the feed.
9
Cooling and Screening
The feed temperature is high after pelleting. Cooling equipment lowers the temperature to meet packaging and storage requirements. Screening removes substandard pellets and fragments, returning them to the pelleting stage for re-granulation, improving product quality, reducing waste rate, and effectively controlling costs.
10
Packaging and Storage
The automated packaging system completes weighing, bagging, and sealing procedures according to specific specifications.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION
Having read this, do you still have any questions you would like to know? We have prepared some common questions for you to answer. You can also contact us directly, and we will arrange a professional technical consultant to provide you with one-on-one free answers.
How much investment is needed to build a livestock feed mill?
+
The investment cost of a feed mill depends on the production scale, product type, level of automation, and equipment configuration requirements, and varies significantly between different projects.
For example, a small poultry feed production line is mainly for the farm’s own use, and the equipment configuration is relatively simple; medium and large feed mills usually require a more complete production and packaging system and a higher level of automation, resulting in a higher investment.
RICHI will design the process and configure the equipment based on your production goals, raw material availability, plant conditions, and budget requirements, providing an economical and reasonable feed mill construction plan.
What is the minimum capacity of a livestock feed mill that can be built?
+
We offer customized construction, providing small, medium, and large production line construction plans according to different production needs.
For small and medium-sized farms or start-up feed companies, a small feed production line of 1-2 tons/hour can be built to meet their own breeding needs or small-scale commercial production. Our professional team will help you assess market demand and future development plans, recommending appropriate capacity configurations to avoid insufficient equipment investment or wasted capacity.
How long does it take to build a feed mill?
+
The construction period for a feed mill depends primarily on the project scale, equipment configuration, and on-site construction conditions. Generally, the construction period for a small feed production line is about 1-3 months; for a medium-sized feed mill project, it’s about 3-6 months; and for large-scale automated feed projects, it may take longer.
The project cycle typically includes stages such as scheme design, equipment production, transportation and installation, commissioning and operation, and personnel training. We will help you improve construction efficiency and achieve production as soon as possible through professional project management and engineering support.
How long does it take to recoup the investment in a feed mill?
+
The investment recovery period for a feed mill is affected by various factors, including local feed market demand, raw material prices, production costs, sales channels, and factory operating efficiency. Reasonable capacity planning, efficient production management, and stable market demand will all affect the speed of investment recovery.
Do you provide overseas installation services?
+
Yes. RICHI has extensive experience in overseas feed mill project construction and can provide technical and engineering services to clients worldwide. Depending on project needs, we can provide pre-project process design, equipment installation guidance, on-site commissioning support, operator training, and post-project technical services. Meanwhile, our team provides feed mill solutions tailored to the specific conditions of different countries, including factory conditions, power standards, raw material characteristics, and production needs.
Is a feed mill a suitable investment?
+
The feed industry is a crucial link in the livestock farming industry chain. With the increasing global demand for meat, eggs, and dairy products, the demand for high-quality animal feed continues to rise. Building a feed mill not only meets the needs of livestock farms themselves but also serves the surrounding livestock market by producing commercial feed.
If you would like to understand whether your region and market environment are suitable for building a feed mill, please feel free to contact us. We have extensive experience and can provide you with professional project analysis and feed mill construction plans to help clients reduce investment risks and improve project feasibility.
